Dear Cantabrigians,
I am very pleased to invite you to one of the Society’s main events of the year, the annual Cricket match and picnic with the Oxford Society on Saturday 8th July, 2017 at the Evrange Oval and Schuman Farm. This year there will be no BBQ as we could not find enough people to organise and run it on the day, so instead we are inviting all participants to bring their own picnic! We will supply liquid refreshment (Pimms, crémant, wine, beer, Coke and other soft drinks, fruit juice, water), all you have to do is bring your own food. It is entirely up to you to bring whatever you want to eat, from Marmite sandwiches to a spread worthy of Glyndbourne. We will set up the tables and benches so you will not have to sit on groundsheets or blankets (You’ll only need to do that when you watch the cricket, unless you bring a chair!).
This is a great family day out, and we are looking forward to a good turnout as in previous years, with family and friends.
We propose a small charge to cover the drinks and other material expenses – including the fee to the Luxembourg Cricket Federation for the use of the cricket ground – that we will incur, €5 per adult (18 years and over), no charge for children and under-18 teenagers!
The basic instructions are as per last year: as noted above, the event will be held at the Schuman Farm courtesy of Fiona and Adrian Wykes and at the Evrange Oval. You are advised to bring folding chairs and blankets, sun cream and other protection for small children and babies – it can get hot on a sunny day! Also, please bring your own cutlery and crockery with your picnic. The event will start at 13:00, we will send out further details on timings closer to the event when we know how many active participants there will be for the cricket (as opposed to passive participants eating their picnic and imbibing miscellaneous refreshments).
If you plan to come, please send me as soon as possible an email to secretary@cambridge.lu with a copy to adrian.wykes@education.lu. Please include in the email how many people will come, how many adults of 18 and over, and who among the group will be playing cricket. The cricket caters for all levels of player, from complete beginners to those in contention for a Test match place! So don’t be shy. And remember that Cambridge needs to obtain revenge for its narrow defeat last year!! If you need information on how to pay the €5 per adult, I will send it to you
