- Committee member John Speed writes on “Admitting women to the previously all-male Colleges”2012 marked the 40th anniversary of the admission of the first women undergraduates in the previously all-male Colleges of Kings’ , Clare and Churchill. These were the first men’s Colleges to take this important step, nearly all the others following in subsequent years. The anniversary was marked by Kings’, Clare and Churchill in a number of ways, including articles in the College magazines.
John Speed, an undergraduate of Clare College between 1967 and 1970 and President of the Junior Combination Room in 1970, agreed to write an article in “Clare News” in 2013 describing the activities of the students in pressing for this change in Clare.
